Road tax is a state-level tax levied on vehicles to maintain highway infrastructure. In Chhattisgarh, road tax must be paid at the time of purchase and verified during vehicle inspections.

Private Vehicles:
Private cars and two-wheelers are subject to 'One-Time Tax' valid for 15 years from the date of registration. The tax rate is calculated as a percentage of the vehicle's ex-showroom price (ranging from 6% to 10% depending on engine capacity and fuel type). After 15 years, during RC renewal, tax is paid in blocks of 5 years.

Commercial Vehicles:
Commercial vehicles pay quarterly, half-yearly, or annual tax based on gross vehicle weight (GVW) or seating capacity. Chhattisgarh transport department provides an online portal (cgtransport.gov.in) to pay road tax and check validity.
