In the unfortunate event of a vehicle owner's demise, the ownership of the vehicle must be transferred to the legal heir or successor. Under Section 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the successor must inform the RTO of their intent to use the vehicle within 30 days, and apply for a formal transfer within 3 months using RTO Form 31.

  • RTO Form 31 (Application for transfer of ownership in name of successor)
  • Original Death Certificate of the owner
  • Succession Certificate or Legal Heir Certificate issued by authority
  • No Objection Declaration from other family members/heirs
  • Original RC
  • Valid Insurance and PUC certificates
  • Address proof of the successor
