Converting a vehicle's registration class from transport (commercial) to non-transport (private) is common for taxi owners who want to use their old cabs as private family cars. This class conversion is allowed by the RTO under strict guidelines.
Conversion Process:
1. Surrender the commercial permit to the RTO and obtain a permit cancellation certificate.
2. Clear all outstanding commercial taxes.
3. Apply for conversion in RTO format along with class conversion fees.
4. The RTO will recalculate the road tax based on private rates, subtracting the depreciated value of taxes already paid.
5. Inspect the vehicle (it must have the yellow commercial board repainted to a white private number plate) and get a new RC card.
